9 Evaluating the Disaster Management Plan The Disaster Management Plan should be reviewed annually against its Objectives and also evaluated against the Outcomes of the Plan: 1. Objectives should be reviewed annually. As indicated at Step 1 of this handbook, objectives are the milestones that we want to achieve within 1 - 3 years. Objectives of a disaster management plan will generally be grouped as prevention, preparedness, response and recovery objectives. The manager with overall responsibility for the disaster management plan should be involved in the regular review of action plans and the review and reporting of progress in delivering the objectives of the disaster management plan. 2. Outcomes should be evaluated every three to five years. As indicated at Step 1 of this handbook, outcomes are the results that are desired over a longer term and are expressed in terms such as community safety, property security, economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. The manager with overall responsibility for the disaster management plan should organise to conduct an independent evaluation of the outcomes every 3 to 5 years. |
